King Louis XVI of France was born on August 23rd, 1754. He was born in the Palace of Versailles. His mother was Marie-Josephe of Saxony and his father was Louis Dauphin of France. He became King of France in 1774 on May 10. He grew up and strong and healthy, though very shy, and was tutored by a French nobleman who taught him religion, morality, and humanities. He also learned Latin, history, geography, and astronomy. When he was 15, he married Marie-Antoinette. She was 14 at the time and the year was 1770. Louis the 16th tried to be a good king but with the debt of the previous ruler, King Louis XIV, he failed and his people protested against him and eventually was beheaded during the French Revolution.
